Overview

The Oscar Trio is the floorstanding model in Marten’s Oscar series, and it brings the Swedish house’s ceramic-driver engineering and natural voicing into a more attainable loudspeaker. A two-way floorstander, it is aimed at the listener who wants genuine Marten clarity and tone, with the scale and bass reach that a floorstanding cabinet allows.

Design & build

The cabinet is built from 25 mm fibre laminate for rigidity and resonance control, in a slim floorstanding form. It is offered in Matte Walnut, Piano Black and Piano White finishes, so it can be matched to the room. Internally it is wired with Jorma Design cabling and terminated with WBT NextGen single-wiring terminals.

Sound & performance

As a two-way floorstander the Oscar Trio is quoted with a frequency range of 27 Hz–20 kHz (±3 dB) and a sensitivity of 89 dB, with a nominal 6-ohm impedance (around 3.1 ohm minimum). The pairing of a ceramic tweeter and twin ceramic woofers is intended to give a clear, natural and controlled sound with deeper bass than a stand-mount can offer.

Key features

The driver complement is a 1-inch ceramic tweeter and two 7-inch ceramic woofers, custom-designed for Marten. A second-order crossover at 2,500 Hz, WBT NextGen single-wiring terminals and Jorma Design internal wiring complete a specification that punches well above the norm at its position in the range.

Technology

Marten uses hard ceramic (also known as sapphire) for its membranes because it is light yet extremely rigid, with a high internal damping factor from a refined electrochemical process and a high material resonance frequency — all of which push distortion down and lift clarity. It is the same driver philosophy that runs through Marten’s flagship models, applied here in a more accessible loudspeaker.

The cabinet is 25 mm laminate with a port firing down into the base, finished in matte walnut, piano black or piano white.

Piero Gabucci reviewed it for HomeTheaterHifi.com in July 2020 and could find nothing worth criticising. Voices were the highlight for him, delicate and sweet from a woman and rich and hearty from a man, and the tweeter gave him all the air and detail he wanted. The music kept its scale and its finer dynamics at low volume as well as high. He ended by asking whether he could live with it as his last speaker, and his answer was “wholeheartedly yes”.

The Hurba Brothers reviewed it for Soundnews in October 2026 and heard the same delicacy. They found the treble refined and airy and the bass tight and articulate, with surprisingly deep reach in their large room. Voices were the strongest point, which they put down to both woofers carrying the voice up to the crossover. For vocal and acoustic music at normal levels they called it “a pure joy”.

The two reviews differ on scale. Where Gabucci heard full dynamics at any volume, Soundnews found the bass thinning and orchestral peaks shrinking near its limits, so this is no speaker for party levels in a big room. They also heard a balance tilted slightly to the bright side and a tweeter that can turn harsh with the wrong partners, and it likes a little warmth in the electronics. It should fire straight ahead with no toe-in.
